Take a look…

Ferret guide

Ferret games are a great way of bonding with your ferret. Having a fantastic ferret game to hand is a must. By doing it this way it means your ferrets can bond with you quickly and easily.

It’s important to treat ferret games as a bit fun and not make them too serious or too aggressive. Utilize this to connect and have fun.

These are my top 5 games you use with your ferrets right now…

Ferret Game 1 – Tug ‘O’ War

Grab your ferrets favourite toy and waggle it in front of them. Once you’ve got their attention and the clamp onto it you can gently wrestle it back. Don’t be too aggressive, more light hearted and fun.

Ferret Game 2 – Ferret Tag

Get your ferrets attention and then run off! Simple. You ferret will likely dash after out of curiosity. You can also stop and head back towards them and watch them scarper. Don’t forget to pet and pat them once the game has finished.

Ferret Game 3 – Ferret dig dig

Get a really big box and fill it with screwed up paper balls. Next you tuck their favourite toy down at the bottom and watch them dig in after it. This is great fun for your ferret.

Ferret Game 4 – Ferret fly fishing

This is one of my favourite games. Tape a treat to a piece of cotton and then tape the cotton to a piece of cane. Now dangle it in front of our ferret and let them bob and weave trying to catch it.

Ferret Game 5 – Ferret Ping-Pong

Grab a ping pong ball bounce it around in front of your ferret on a hard floor. You’re ferret will have a whail of a time snatching after it and can compete against them to get it first. You’ll both enoy this.

Go ahead and come up with your ferret games of your own making?

For more great Ferret information check out Awesome Ferret Blog

Ideally you should be giving your ferrets 2 hours of playtime a day and joining in games is a great way to bond with them.

I hope this gives you a few ideas. Enjoy!

Whenever you are adopting a ferret, the first and foremost work would be to immunize it. Ferrets can be groomed but not like cats and dogs. The toughest part for training ferrets is to make him understand the rules of the house.

As in the case of other animals, the easiest way to train a ferret is through rewards. For good behavior you should give it food, otherwise keep it caged and pay no attention, no matter how much it whines. It will soon change its behavior.

Ferrets are energetic creatures and love to move around a lot. As a result, the rooms can be messed up. Another common problem is nipping. But with a little bit of patience, ferrets can be trained not to nip and use the litter, instead of messing around.

As in the case of other pet animals, ferrets can be trained to come if its name is called out. By training ferrets in this way, helps you to save a lot of time and anxious moments, as ferrets usually creeps into some small places or holes. You should also remember to reward the ferret with food as and when it reacts to your call. This will also make him obedient.

Small chicken pieces or liver flavored semi moist food items are ideal treats for ferrets. An effective way for training ferrets is to place some food treats inside a tin box and rattle it while calling out its name. In a few days the ferret will identify the rattling sound of the tin with its name and treat, and come to you.

Baby ferrets are easiest to train and can be made to grow into happy and healthy adults through training and interactions at frequent intervals. Baby ferrets are also very playful and intelligent and can also learn tricks.

During the training, the most important thing would be to allow him to slow down after his initial boisterous play and habits. This is because until and unless he pays attention, he cannot learn much. The other important factor would be to take the ferret to the same area for his lessons, usually away from distractions.

While training ferrets, effort and patience on your part can train your ferret to sit up, roll over and fetch things, by the trick of repetition and reward. These would lead to faster grasping.

Ferrets are great critters. They are wonderful loving companions who never fail to make you laugh or giggle. They are extremely attention dependent and an owner who will devote the time and effort that they need. One of the first things you will need to have a ferret are ferrets’ cages. You will have to purchase one that is specifically meant for ferrets. Ferrets need the safety and security of a comfortable home.

A single thing you ought to now about these furry carpet sharks is that they require six to eight several hours outside of the cage a day. They require you to pay attention to them and can’t just be left within a cage all day and all night long. They adore to perform with you so make certain you invest as a lot time as you are able to with them. Whenever you purchase a ferret maintain this in mind. If you are able to not invest eight several hours with them get them a companion ferret. You’ll nevertheless require to invest at least six several hours with them out.

The ferret isn’t a rodent they’re closer towards the weasel than anything else. They aren’t pleased just being left in their cage. Should you don’t plan on taking them out and handling them too as playing with them then don’t obtain a ferret.

Their environment ought to be a great single. They’re really protective and obsessive about their ferret house. They can’t live inside a fish tank or other closed glass cage. They require a wire cage that has great air flow. The cage ought to have bars which are broad sufficient to let air via but not broad sufficient for them to obtain stuck in them. Their feet are really delicate and can get caught on the wrong cage.

You will find various story ferret cages. They come in triple, double, and single stories. A single story cage is great for a single or two ferrets. A double is a lot much better. If your ferrets get along they ought to be fine in a large cage. They’ll nevertheless require a whole lot of time outside no matter what size of a cage you’ve. Most ferrets are active climbers and like to become high.

There are a lot of things that you will need in and around the cage as well. They love to lay in hammocks and will need them as a sleeping area in their cage. Also most cages have rooms for plastic tunnels that go around them or inside them. Toys are also a must.

A two story cage with interior tunnels is a great cage to have for one to four ferrets. Make sure that they cannot fall from the top to the bottom of the cage though. They will need a hammock to fall into or some other thing to catch them. There are a wide variety of cage accessories that can be purchased at pet stores. Ferrets also litter train if you spend some time with them. You will have to make sure that they have the right litter box and train them to use it but it saves on bedding and cleaning in the long run.

No matter the size from the cage that you simply purchase make certain that it fits your ferret. Ferret cages can’t be aquariums or points like that. It’s also essential to keep in mind ferrets are really smart and training ferrets is not as difficult as you might think. If they are able to escape a cage they will.

If you want your pet to live for a long time, a proper ferret diet is very important. Without correct feeding your ferret is at risk for serious health problems. Ferrets evovled to be meat eaters and because of this they need a high protein, low fiber diet in order to do well. Several years ago the best choice for feeding ferrets was high quality cat food. You can continue to buy high quality cat food for your ferret, however there are lots of different ferret food options available that can supply the combination that your pet requires – high quality fat and low carbohydrates. The proper mix will help ensure that your ferret can achieve a maximum life span.
A correct and balanced diet is critical for a baby ferret. Here’s the important things to look for when choosing food for your ferret: 35-40% protein, 18-30% fat, 2% fiber, 21 amino acids, less than 7% ash and some good carbs like rice flour or brewer’s yeast. Look out for ferret foods that incorporate frozen fish as your ferret won’t eat it. Ferrets have been known to starve themselves rather than eat food they don’t like. High quality ferret food is often costlier than a premium quality cat food, however ferrets don’t eat very much, so buying quality food shouldn’t be that expensive in the long run. Supplements won’t be needed if you’re making sure your ferret gets a healthy diet.
Your ferret needs to eat at least twice a day to make sure it gets the number of calories it needs to preserve good health. Because ferrets are small animals the portion sizes given to them should be small as well. When giving your pet a moist diet, the food can only be left out for 45 minutes or so, then it should be removed if it has not been eaten. If you’d like their food to be accessible for longer than that, you might want to think about using a dry pellet food. Dry pellets help to keep your pet’s teeth clean and can be left in your ferret’s cage for the entire day. If you select a dry pellet diet for your pet, make sure there is always fresh water available. Ferrets seem to prefer drinking from a dish rather than a water bottle so supply them with fresh water in a bowl. Remember to change their water frequently to keep it fresh and clean.
Treats are not required for your ferret buy they can be helpful if you’re trying to train or housebreak your pet. Good snack options are cooked eggs and meats. You should stay away from high-sugar fruits or candy as well as any dairy products like ice cream or milk. Also, avoid nuts or nut products. Any of these could cause nutritrional problems. Health problems that your ferret could encounter include malnutrition, obesity, tooth decay, diarrhea, intestinal blockage, insulinoma and hypoglycemia. Be sure to use treats sparingly so your ferret doesn’t begin to refuse its normal food. A ferret doesn’t tolerate vegetables and grains well, so be sure to avoid them. And, be sure to avoid onions because they are actually poisonous to ferrets.
Making sure your ferret has a healthy diet is crucial in maintaining a long and healthy life. Your ferret will be content, comfy and less susceptible to any life-threatening illnesses. Ferret owners are generally known for giving their pets lots of love and attention, however, feeding them correctly is the best way to show affection.

All ferrets love to sleep. Generally a ferret can sleep between eighteen and twenty hours a day. They like to hide, too, in comfy, dark spaces. So, be sure to give your ferret a comfortable area where they can sleep and hide. So, let’s look at soft bedding, sleep sacks and ferret hammocks. Just as we like a light blanket when our room is warm and a heavier blanket when our room is cool, so do ferrets. Because of this, you should provide two types of beds for them in their cage. Then they can choose the one they find the most pleasant at the time. For a ferret, having a bed is vital to ensure healthy sleeping patterns. If your ferret is not comfortable it won’t sleep well and that might cause health problems.
One option for your ferret’s bed is a sleep sack, sometimes referred to as a nap sack. These can provide extra warmth when it is required. Put a sleep sack on the bottom of the cage. Most are made with a single opening at one end for your ferret to crawl into. Some have openings at both ends. When your ferret uses its sleep sack, it is comfy and warm. You can even find some sleep sacks that make crinkling sounds. This can also be used for play time.
Another choice for your ferret’s bed is a hammock. You suspend a hammock in your ferret’s cage. It provides a comfy, pocketed space that gives your pet a feeling of security while still being partially open. Because ferrets are sensitive to heat, a hammock can provide a comfortable spot that also allows your pet to cool down, if necessary. Hammocks are available is all shapes and size and can be fleece-lined or unlined. There are also large ferret hammocks available that can easily accommodate several animals and they really like snuggling together while sleeping. Hammocks can also be flat or boot-shapes and some even have zippers so you can adjust the size of the opening. Hammocks also provide for usable space for your ferret.
When you buy a hammock or sleep sack, make sure it is machine washable to prevent the spread of disease and to keep it clean. Choose a tightly woven fabric so it will be safer and more durable. Any time a sleep sack or hammock starts to fray, or if the seams begin to separate, remove it from the cage immediately. A damaged sack or hammock is hazardous to your ferret. Make sure that any hardware used to attach the hammock to the cage isn’t hazardous for your pet.
Hammocks are a good choice for your ferret because they provide a safe environment for them without putting any pressure on their body. It also helps them get into their natural sleeping position while providing another area they can use for play.
