London Pet Sitting

Maida Vale, St Johns Wood and Kilburn Pet Sitting

We are expanding into the Maida Vale / South Kilburn area and are happy to have Claire as our Maida Vale Pet Sitter and Dog Walker.

In addition, Claire is our resident London Dog Trainer and will either help our other dog sitters or set up and deliver specific programmes for your pooch.

Claire’s experience includes working at the Mayhew Animal Home and she was recommended to us by Hammersmith Dog Training Club.

As an area, this has many good places for walks. It is surprising how green London is with its parks. There is the well known Regent's Park and the less well known Paddington Rec, which is a nice park with a cheerful café and leisure centre.

Regent's Park is beautiful all the year round, but in June the roses (they have more than 400 species and 30,000 plants) are particularly beautiful. Regent’s Park is large, with 166 acres, being the largest outdoor sports area in central London. There are also various events organised in Regent's Park during the year. However, to visit the more exotic animals at London zoo, you will have to leave the dog at home, shame!

It is clearly one of the pet areas of the city with three pet shops on Kilburn High Street. The high street dates back to Roman times when it was known as Watling Street. There should be plenty of the Irish dogs here as it has the largest percentage of Irish in London. Why are there so many Irish Dog breeds? Irish Terrier, Irish Setter, Irish Red and White Setter, Irish Wolfhound, Irish Water Spaniel, Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier. There is also the Kerry Blue Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and Kerry Beagle. Have I missed any other Irish dog breeds?

Whilst the area has the vibrancy and buzz of Kilburn High Street, there are the quieter tree lined avenues behind, which give beautiful routes for walking the dogs to the parks. The area is full of nice looking late Victorian and Edwardian Mansion blocks although some people who lived in the area moved onto bigger ranches, such as Joan Collins who was brought up in Maida Vale. The area has been popular with artistic / media people. Sir Alec Guinness was born in the area, John Inman (from the Are You Being Served TV sitcom) and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd lived in Maida Vale.

Little Venice is a lovely place to walk, alongside the Grand Union Control - although a good idea to keep the dogs on a lead! Little Venice is believed to have been coined by Robert Browning the poet who lived in Maida Vale between 1862 and 1887. He was also the reason for the name of Browning Pool which is at the junction of Regent’s Canal and the Paddington arm of the Grand Canal.

Maida Vale is in the Borough of Westminster, which also includes part of Kilburn (though the rest of Kilburn is in Camden and Brent).
